Race to the Top - what place does competition have in the mountains?
An illustrated Lecture and Discussion Panel with Sir Chris Bonington, Kenton Cool, Sandy Allan and Doug Scott. The debate will focus on whether medals and awards have a place in climbing, or if they threaten the integrity of the sport.
Kenton Cool will be speaking about his recent trip to take a 1922 Olympic Gold Medal for Alpinism to the summit of Everest: Sandy Allan will describe his recent ground-breaking traverse of the Mazeno Ridgeof Nanga Parbat with Rick Allen, and Doug Scott will be discussing a camp in the Pamirs in which the Russians wished to promote high altitude climbing as part of the Olympic Games. Chris Bonington will discuss the essence of climbing.
