Based in Wooler, gateway to the Cheviot Hills and the Northumberland National Park, the festival will be held over the weekend of 3-5 July and will provide opportunities to climb, walk and socialise.
Now in its third year, the event is led by local volunteers and aims to give both newbies and veterans a taste of what makes Northumberland special.
On Saturday you can do your own thing, or join a climbing instruction session on one of the local crags or a guided walk with Paul Mitchinson from North East Guides.
If you’re feeling especially energetic, the 20-mile Chevy Chase Fell Race legs it around some of the finest upland scenery in Northumberland; there’s also a 20-mile walk option.
Saturday evening entertainment starts at about 8pm in the Angel Inn, Wooler with a warm welcome from BMC CEO Dave Turnbull; there’s a free buffet, a quiz (with prizes), a raffle and a lecture by Neil Gresham.
Suitably inspired by the lecture, Sunday will be another day to make the most of the nearby walking and climbing.
Principal accommodation will be at the Highburn House Country Holiday Park, where camping will be free for BMC members on Saturday night – don’t forget your membership card as proof. The rate for Friday night is £8 per person.
The festival is free to attend. Whether you’re a local, regular visitor or a first-timer to “the County”, we look forward to seeing you there.
