Members and non-members of the BMC are welcome to join us on a winter walk around Combs Moss in The Dark Peak on Saturday 28 November.

In addition to having a great day in the hills, we hope that it will be a good opportunity for you to meet other like-minded people, and for us to learn from you how the BMC might better meet your hill walking needs.

The walk will be led by BMC Peak Area Hill Walking Reps Cath Lee and Peter Judd and by BMC member Austin Knott.

Where is Combs Moss?
Combs Moss is an area of high moorland just north of the historic spa town of Buxton.  Our walk will take us around its top edges, namely Short Edge, Black Edge and Combs Edge.  If it is a clear day there will be stunning views across the Peak District countryside.

How long is the walk?
The walk will be about 9 miles and involve a few short but steep ascents and descents.  The ground can be quite boggy underfoot.

Meet outside The Beehive Inn in Combs at 10.15am with a view to setting off by 10.30am.
There is plenty of free roadside parking in the village.

Please note: due to Access Land restrictions no dogs can be allowed on this walk.

Post-walk drink
After the walk you would be most welcome to join us for a drink in The Beehive Inn.  If anyone wishes to stay on a little longer into the evening, the pub has a good reputation for bar meals which are served from 6:00pm but it would be wise to book a table in advance (phone 01298 812758).

What to wear and what to bring with you
Please wear your normal walking gear for a hill walk at that time of year and bring a packed lunch and drinks.  Due to the fact that the ground is likely to be wet and boggy in places, knee length gaiters are recommended.   If you are new to hill walking and require advice regarding suitable clothing, footwear and kit, please contact Cath Lee for advice

Booking
It would be helpful if we had an idea regarding how many people to expect and so if you are thinking of joining us, please could you just drop a quick e-mail to Cath Lee at: cath.lee@peakwalking.com
