A special talk by Doug Scott CBE in aid of Community Action Nepal’s Earthquake Appeal, to be held at Cranleigh School, Surrey on Thursday 5 May 2016.

A year on from the earthquake that devastated Nepal, legendary mountaineer Doug Scott will be telling the story of how he and Dougal Haston made the first ascent of the world’s highest mountain by its massive South West Face forty years ago.  Their epic climb would go down in mountaineering history as ‘Everest the Hard Way’.

Doug went on to continue his outstanding mountaineering career, making over forty first ascents in the Himalaya and Greater Ranges. He also felt a need to help the mountain people of Nepal who had helped him achieve these climbs. He did this by setting up the charity Community Action Nepal (CAN).

Proceeds from the talk will support the reconstruction of the CAN’s projects that were damaged or destroyed by the earthquake. Before the talk and during the interval there will be a sale of Nepalese goods and an auction of signed framed mountain prints. Doug will also be selling and signing copies of the first volume of his recently launched autobiography Up And About.
