Mountaineer and author John Porter talks about ‘the generation that nearly climbed itself into extinction’ at Longlands in Uldale on Thursday 25 August 2016.
Hear John’s tales of climbing with the golden generation of mountaineers in the 1970s and 80s who made bold lightweight ascents on some of the world’s highest mountains. They pushed forwards the boundaries of the sport, but at a great price. John will recall stories of Alex MacIntyre from his best-selling book, One Day As A Tiger, along with tales of Joe Tasker, Pete Boardman, Doug Scott, Pete Thexton, Paul Nunn, Alan Rouse, Roger Baxter-Jones and more.
On arrival there will be a welcome drink and canapes. The lecture will start at 8pm and will include a break for a raffle and book signing.
