Legendary mountaineer Doug Scott will be telling the story of how he and Dougal Haston made the first ascent of the massive South West Face of Everest in September 1975, in Plymouth on Thursday 27 October at 7.00 pm (doors open 6.00 pm).

Doug and Dougal were the first Britons to stand on the summit of Everest. Their epic climb would go down in mountaineering history as ‘Everest the Hard Way’.

Using a lightweight approach, Doug went on to continue his outstanding mountaineering career, making over forty first ascents in the Himalaya and Greater Ranges. He also felt a need to set out to help the mountain people of Nepal who had helped him achieve these climbs and did this by setting up the charity Community Action Nepal. Doug will provide an update on the progress made with reconstruction of CAN projects, such as health posts and schools, which were so badly damaged by the Nepal earthquakes in 2015.

Before the talks and during intervals there will be a sale of Nepalese goods and of signed framed mountain prints. Doug will also be signing copies of the first volume of his autobiography Up And About.  Proceeds from the lecture tour will go to supporting the work of Community Action Nepal .

Venue: Plymouth College, Ford Park, Plymouth PL4 6RN

Tickets: £16, telephone 01752 505114 or book online
