Lancashire's premier climbing festival, WiltonFest, is back for 2017 and we're planning an even bigger day than last year's blockbuster. Coming to you on Saturday 2 September – it's the event you definitely don't want to miss.
This year's event is being held in honour of BMC volunteer and WiltonFest creator Nick Bond, who sadly passed away in July, with all proceeds going to Climbers Against Cancer (CAC), so let's make it a big one!
Once again we’ll be setting up base camp in Wilton 2, to enable us to utilise the gun club’s hut, with brews throughout the day (for a donation to CAC) and a tombola of climbing prizes. The BMC shop will have plenty of enticing special offers, and there will be other stands from local climbing and outdoor clubs and companies.
You can just turn up, climb and enjoy the festivities throughout the day and evening, or get yourself onto one of the many sessions we have planned. Activities start from 11am and include:
- climbing taster sessions run by Rockover Climbing
- ‘Ready to Rock’ courses with Summit Ascent
- trad skills clinics with James McHaffie
- masterclasses with Andy Cave
- climbing photography classes with Mike Hutton
- crag first aid workshops with Bolton MRT
- bouldering tour with Tim Greenhalgh
- yoga class with Nathan Rostron
Evening festivities include: the eagerly anticipated WiltonFest BBQ - burgers for donations to CAC; the legendary raffle draw - tickets sold all day and proceeds going to CAC; and a slideshow by tradmaster James McHaffie.
Booking: some sessions require advanced booking .
Parking: is available at a number of locations, all within a five-minute walk of the event base camp.
Eating & drinking: Bring your own mug for brews / glass for beers, and a chair for the slideshow.
Camping: festival-goers are free to camp in Wilton 1 on Saturday night.
