Come and join us for a 10-mile circular winter walk in the Chiltern Hills AONB on Saturday 20 January 2018.

This walk is a great opportunity to get out in the local countryside and meet with other BMC members whilst enjoying fine views.

Start Point: Tring rail station (SP 95290 12233)
Start Time: 10:00
End Time: 15:00
Distance: 10 miles
Total Ascent: 1,200 feet

Meet at 10:00 at Tring rail station. Leaving the station the route heads north following the Ridgeway National Trail to the summit of Beacon Hill and then onto Gallows Hill, both Sites of Special Scientific Interest. Joining the Icknield Way Trail, the route then heads south to the Bridgwater Monument providing views across the vast Ashridge Estate before returning to Tring.

The Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Much of the route is on non-metalled tracks which are very likely to be wet, muddy and slippery. There are a couple of sections in particular which are very muddy. As the walk is taking place in January and mainly follows non-metalled tracks it is essential that a good pair of walking boots are worn with a decent sole to aid with stability on the muddy and slippery sections. Gaiters are also highly recommended.

If travelling from London, trains run frequently to Tring from London Euston taking between 35 and 45 minutes.

To assist with the planning of the walk, if you would like to attend please send an email to BMC London & SE Area volunteer hill walking rep Chris Stone: lsehillwalking@hotmail.com
