From the origins of climbing in West Yorkshire in the late 19th century, through the contributions of some of the biggest names in British climbing, the lecture will take place at the Alpine Club in London on Tuesday 26 March.
The lecture will focus on the main characters involved in this history: Slingsby, Botterill, Frankland, Dolphin, Austin, Livesey, Fawcett, Dunne et al, and such developments as the first modern climbing wall at Leeds University in 1964, the brainchild of PE lecturer Don Robinson.
The event is one of the Alpine Club lecture series. The lectures provide a good opportunity for AC members to meet one another and exchange news, views and information. New members and prospective members are particularly welcome. Prospective members are asked to contact the AC office before attending.
