The BMC Cymru South Wales Area Meeting will take place online on Zoom on Monday 18 March 2024, starting at 7pm.

Come to our next virtual gathering of South Wales climbers and walkers and get involved in the BMC.

Area Meetings are run by volunteers and provide an opportunity for you to discuss issues and influence decisions affecting climbers and walkers locally and nationally. All are welcome.

DRAFT BOLTING POLICY

Over the last 3 months a working group has been reviewing the South Wales Bolt Policy at the request of the South Wales BMC Area. The aim has been to align the current policy with current accepted practice in the region, and balancing the views of the climbing community.

One specific question we would like feedback on is related to Pembrokeshire. This has long been considered a 100% bolt-free zone and preservation of this as a world-class trad climbing area is a priority for most members, however, there are 2 quarries which have had a few bolted routes since the 1980's and 90's (Tenby South Beach and Porthgain). We would like feedback on the concept of adding a detail to the Pembrokeshire Bolt policy to the effect that unquarried rock and all sea cliffs remain as a "red zone" with no drilled equipment allowed while use of bolts in inland quarries where traditional climbing is not feasible may be permitted.

Please note that use of fixed gear in parts of the Llangattock area is being considered by a small working group following a proposal at an area meeting and the policy for Llangattock will be updated in due course.

Please find the draft policy attached to this listing. Comments can be brought to the area meeting, emailed to swalesbmcaccess@gmail.com, or if you are a facebook user you can post comments on the posts on BMC South Wales Area or South Wales Climbing Groups.
