The North East is a vibrant region for rock climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers and the sport is going from strength to strength with a rapid growth in the numbers taking part. From the main centres of population in Tyneside and Wearside the outdoor enthusiast is only an hour from the Cheviot Hills, two hours from the Lake District and an hour from the Cleveland Hills!
The region has a number of outstanding climbing and bouldering walls and they provide excellent all weather training and recreation.
The region is also well served by a number of outdoor clubs and the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle now has a reputation for regularly showing current outdoor films such as the annual “Reel to Rock” series.
Currently the region has some great ideas to push forward the profile of Climbing, Mountaineering and Walking in the North East Area for the local activists and the wider outdoor community. These ideas are driven, largely, through the NE BMC area ativists and include summer festivals and crag clean up events. Local walls often host key competition events such as the British Youth Indoor Series.
The North East BMC meets four times annually; twice in the south of the region and twice in the north. The venue for the next meeting and the minutes of the previous meeting will be posted on this page. All BMC members are welcome to attend.
