Climbing giants Steve McClure and James McHaffie go head to head for a Friends of the Peak District ‘Inspiring Climbing’ lecture titled 'Rock Climbing – Danger or Difficulty?'
On the face of it, Steve McClure and James McHaffie operate at opposite ends of the climbing spectrum: Steve is renowned for super-desperate sport routes while James is boldness personified with numerous heart-stopping ascents to his name, including Indian Face in a day.
Steve and James will discuss what inspires them to push the boundaries at the second Friends of the Peak District ‘Inspiring Climbing’ Lecture.
They will examine the psychology of the committed sports climber and the bold traditionalist. What makes them tick? What are the different motivations for the committed sports climber and the bold traditionalist? Steve’s mammoth efforts on the likes of Overshadow (9a+) and the unrepeated Mutation have required months of commitment and repetition while James has made a speciality of climbing bold routes in immaculate style often on-sight. But are they really so different?
Steve McClure and James McHaffie are BMC ambassadors.
This event is open to the public. There will be plenty of opportunity for audience participation at the Lescar Inn, Hunters Bar.
Entry costs: £5. All proceeds will go to the Friends of the Peak District.
