Due to concerns about transmission of Coronavirus, the BMC Area Hill Walk on Kinder Scout scheduled to take place on Saturday 4 April has been postponed.

EVENT POSTPONED

BMC members and their friends are invited to join a peer-led walk in the Peak District delivered by BMC Peak Area volunteers on Saturday 4 April 2020.

Location
Hayfield, High Peak, Derbyshire. Central west of the Peak District.

The route
The planned route will take the group onto Kinder Scout, across to Harry Hut and the return to Hayfield via Lantern Pike.  The walk is approx. 12.9 miles (20.7 km) in length using mostly established paths and tracks, some are a little rough and eroded.  There may be a small amount of off-path terrain and boggy ground with some minor streams as well as public roads to cross.

Meeting point and start time
Meeting place is  outside Hayfield Information Centre, adjacent to Hayfield Bus Station, Hayfield, High Peak SK22 2ES, OS Grid Ref: SK 036 869 at 9.50am for a 10.00am start.

Information relating to buses serving Hayfield can be found at: https://bustimes.org/localities/hayfield-derbyshire

There is a pay and display car park in the adjoining Sett Valley trail car park.

What to bring
Participants will be expected to carry weather resistant clothing (including gloves and headgear) suitable for the conditions prevailing on the day which could be anywhere between hot and sunny (meaning sun hats, plenty of water and sun cream) to cold, wet and windy (meaning plenty of warm clothing) and also carry sufficient food and water (or other suitable drinks) for a full-day hill walk.

Although the walk is planned to finish well within the hours of available daylight, participants might wish to pack a small torch/head torch in case an emergency results in a severe delay to the walk.

Who can come
This walk is open to BMC members and accompanying friends.

Under 18s are welcome, but only if in the company of a parent or legal guardian who will take responsibility for them throughout.

Dogs may accompany walkers but on the understanding that they must be kept on short-fixed leads at all times.

Let us know you're coming
The walk is being organised by Peter Judd in conjunction with other BMC Peak Area members. It would be helpful to have names of likely attendees ahead of time if possible. If you think it likely you'll come then please spare a moment to email area hillwalking representative Austin Knott: austin@walkthemoorlands.co.uk.
