I got into volunteering for the BMC after far too many pints of Black Sheep in the Belmont Bull at a cold winters area meeting. Jon Dittman the very effective and organised secretary gave way, and in came a scruffy Earth Environmental Science student who forgets to hand in his field work reports never mind area reports! After volunteering names and faces started to click together and from spending more time chin-wagging about climbing I found there were more people to climb with.
After two meetings as Area secretary I took up the position on the National Council as Lyndon Gills protégée. Even though this meant longer and more meetings, I have been able to climb in new places and meet some of the most famous climbers in Britain.
